Green Tourism is a world-leading sustainability accreditation programme, with more than 27 years of experience assessing travel and hospitality businesses. Certification is awarded across bronze, silver and gold levels following detailed independent assessments. Having progressed through bronze in 2023 and silver in 2024, Brockencote Hall has now reached the highest standard with its Gold award.
Over the past year, Brockencote Hall has achieved a 44 per cent reduction in food waste, driven by practical, innovative initiatives. On-site composting now supports our polytunnels, where some of the hotel’s fresh produce is grown, while remaining food waste is responsibly managed through anaerobic digestion.
Alongside this, overall waste volumes have reduced by 23 per cent, supported by enhanced recycling processes and ongoing team training. The hotel is proud to continue operating with zero waste sent to landfill, reinforcing our commitment to long-term environmental responsibility.
Giving back locally has been a central part of Brockencote Hall’s sustainability journey. Over the past year, the hotel has welcomed local artisan makers to sell their goods at a festive Christmas market, creating a platform for small businesses while offering guests something truly special.
We are also proud to support local charities, including Primrose Hospice, which recently received £500 worth of festive hampers donated by the hotel to help raise vital funds.
Our grounds do more than provide a beautiful setting. Seasonal foliage from the estate was used in a festive wreath-making workshop, while newly introduced bee hives have added another meaningful layer to our sustainability story.
Following their first on-site harvest, Brockencote honey is now enjoyed throughout the hotel, featuring in bakery treats and creatively crafted cocktails, bringing the landscape directly to the table.
All sustainability initiatives at Brockencote Hall are guided by a dedicated Green Champion, ensuring a consistent, considered approach across the hotel. The property also operates on 100 per cent renewable energy, further supporting our environmental goals.
“As a hotel, the local community is at the heart of who we are – whether that’s our colleagues, nearby residents, or the people and organisations we partner with to provide a space for our guests to relax and create special memories.
Sustainability has always been a big priority for us in our everyday work, but claiming gold is the icing on the cake. It is a true testament to the effort put in by the whole team to care for our guests and the environment alike.”
Dan Brennan, General Manager at Brockencote Hall
“Brockencote Hall’s journey towards Gold certification has been underpinned by clear communication with both the team and guests. The hotel is a best-in-class example of how thoughtful, consistent action can make a genuine difference – from reducing waste, to supporting low-impact experiences and strengthening the local community.”
Jayne O’Malley, Group Operations Director at Eden Hotel Collection
Achieving Gold certification is an important milestone, but for Brockencote Hall, sustainability remains an ongoing journey, shaped by care, creativity and a deep respect for the place we call home.
